Hi, it's me Kata and I'd like to welcome you to Somló! In the smallest wine region of Hungary with a unique variety of wine you won't find anywhere else in the world. Here in the middle of the vineyards you will find our fourth country house - Buborek... cosy, with panoramic views, excellent accessibility and with the best Hungarian winemakers just a stone's throw away...
The fact that Somló is exceptional in its volcanic origin was discovered by the ancient Romans, who planted the first vines here. And although the vineyards have had many owners during their existence, the regulations from 1511, when the vineyards on the hill became the property of the monastery, will probably still be unique. The vineyards were administered with a firm hand by the Mother Superior, who issued several special regulations concerning the behaviour... so that the grapes would not suffer from immoral influences. So, it was forbidden to spread any malicious gossip in the vineyards, to swear, to behave indecently or to get drunk. When the harvest began to approach from September only old ladies were allowed to guard the vineyards against theft. According to the Mother Superior, the combination of young women and ripe grapes could be too tempting and was forbidden.
Whether this is true or not, we, on the other hand, will be happy to tempt you with views, walks through our vineyards, the essence of grapes locked in a glass bottle, and even resting behind the back of the Lord God.

We are a female and family run small business, Kata and Laura, running 5 tiny country homes in the Balaton Uplands, in Hungary. The idea and the first guesthouse came in 2017 from the desire to share what nature, these beautiful, programful destinations can give to big city people. During the years we grew to have 5 small guesthouses, in different locations, that are same in equipment but different in style: Chill'Inn, Rusztika, Buborék, Barrique, Kubo, the latter is a fully off-grid, self sustainable house. We want to share how it feels to get disconnected from the everyday routine and relax for a weekend or a longer stay. Five houses, one goal. The most important for us is to make everything so that our guests can have an authentic experience and a perfect relaxation in a chic countryside. We have no WiFi, no TV and other electronic goods, but we have fresh air, big outside space, a true relaxing atmosphere in all seasons with a cozy, stylish interior. The outdoor areas are rich in gorgeous sunset or sunrise, flowery meadow and butterfly dance gazing spots, comfy lounge areas, fireplace, insect hotel, deer feeder, terraces for long chats and stargazing. Places where you feel the terroir before letting down the first sip of volcanic wine. Yes, all houses are in vineyards with premium boutique winemakers all around. Should our guests need the best programs, hard-to-find-places, local experiences, best chats, involvements, access to local products and maybe also discounts, we are there for them.

Buborek is the fourth of our couples' cottages that are scattered around the Balaton Highlands. Together with the Barrique country house, they are located on one property in the middle of the vineyards. Despite this, they are far enough apart for guests to have plenty of privacy.
They are ideal if you would like to spend time with your friends - close and still each in their own and intimate way.

As we are a wine-growing family ourselves, we will welcome you with our own wine. In addition to that, we also make grape juice and pálinka, so if you'd like to try some, just ask :)
As for food, you have the option of buying a breakfast basket and/or ordering a picnic basket with cheese and wine ( you will taste wine from some of our region's well-known wineries).
Or ask us where to go for great food in Somló and we'll be happy to direct you to local restaurants.

IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF WINE
Somló, although the smallest wine region in Hungary, has a lot to offer its visitors. Thanks to the volcanic origin of the mountain, the flavours of our wines are unmistakable. Especially because here you will find a variety that is grown nowhere else in the world (Juhfark). And feel free to ask why it is called the wine of the wedding night :)
Our little house is within walking distance of the best wineries (there are almost 30 in the area) and you will find among them also artisanal and natural ones. And since wine is a tradition in our family and I myself am a sommelier, I'll be happy to give you some advice on where to go for wine tourism and get into the secrets of this wine region. Or, if you want, follow the trail of Hungarian pálinka :)
